7 Reasons to Ditch the Sugar

Sugar is what nutritionists call 'empty calories', they are referred to by this term because they contain calories no other nutritional value. Sugar is also linked to weight gain and other health problems, see the below image.

A lot of the time we do not think about how much sugar is in the foods or drinks we consume. Recently the Daily Mail published a shocking article showing how some of much loved drinks can contain as much sugar as a strawberry and creme tart!

Here are a few:

Pret's 500ml Orange Juice contains 51g sugar, equivalent to 13 McVities hobnob biscuits

Blackcurrant Ribena 500ml contains 52.6g sugar, equivalent to 13 Oreo biscuits

Innocent Pomegranates, Blueberries and Acai Superfruit Smoothie 250ml contains 34.3 g sugar, equivalent to 3.5 Krispy Kreme Donuts

Bugerkings supersize coke contains a whopping 79.5g of sugar, equivalent to 9 penguin milk chocolate wafers

Rockstar Punched Energy and Guava 500ml contains 78g sugar, equivalent to 20 Maryland Chocolate Cookies.

When reading the above please take into account that the Innocent fruit smoothie and the Orange juice contains natural sugars from the fruits used to make the drink. The others however have very little to no natural fruits/sugars. So when trying to lose weight please take into account these hidden sugars and what affect these will have on the body. Now I don't know about you but if I was going to put that much sugar into my body I would rather eat the biscuits!
